Pride weekend was a lot of fun. I saw pictures of the parade in Oak Bluffs and the Drag Brunch at the Oyster Bar, and both looked amazing. The dance party at the Orange Peel Bakery on Saturday night was so great, especially since it was down the street. There are not many opportunities to dance in this town, so you gotta grab ’em while you can. The music was hot, and while there were many familiar faces there, there were also some people from other towns looking to celebrate Pride and dance outside. Thank you to Juli Vanderhoop and Pathways Arts for pulling this together.
The Outermost Inn is open for dinner; call 508-645-3511 to reserve your table. The Orange Peel Bakery is hosting Sunday dinners from 5 to 7 pm, takeout or eat al fresco. Call the bakery at 508-645-2025 to order ahead. The Gay Head Store is now selling the New York Times (this place just keeps getting better and better).
A friendly reminder that access to Philbin Beach requires either a parking permit or a walk-on pass beginning Wednesday, June 15. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Cars with a Philbin permit or a walk-on pass are allowed to drop off people or beach gear either in the lot or at the top of the driveway. If the lot is full, permit holders may go to the municipal lot, show permits, and park. Anyone walking in from the road must show the attendant a pass. Residential permits and beach parking permits are available at the Town Office; passes are sold Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 9 am- to 12 pm. You can print an application from the town website and bring it in all filled out (applications are also available at the Town Hall). The Cliff Lot will be open, and begin charging to park starting June 18. I got my Philbin pass today, and it was quick and easy. Once I get my pass, I feel like I am officially ready for summer.
Yoga is back at the Town Hall! Monday and Wednesday at 9 am. Bring your own mat.
The next meeting of the book group at the library will be next Thursday, June 23 at 3 pm. The group will be held on the library deck for a discussion of “The Argonauts” by Maggie Nelson. Email aq_mail@clamsnet.org to register. There will be a summer kickoff barbeque at the library, next Saturday, June 25, at noon, followed by a treasure box workshop taught by Jannette Vanderhoop at 1 pm.
Congratulations to Kayleigh Bollin, Latham Higgins, Peyton Jeffers, and Graham Stearns, who all graduated from Martha’s Vineyard High School this past Sunday. They were all recipients of multiple scholarships as well, at Class Night on Friday. What a wonderful group of young people; best of luck to you all in your future endeavors. Happy birthday to Noah Manning, who is turning 16 on June 16, his golden birthday. Happy birthday to Danny Jensen, who shares the 16th with Noah, Ava Castro on June 17, and Faith Smalley, who celebrates on June 20!
