A dump truck operator was cited after striking a Tisbury Police cruiser on State Road Tuesday afternoon. The dump truck was turning onto State Road from High Point Lane when the accident occurred. State Police issued the dump truck operator a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign, according to Tisbury Police Sgt. Andrew Silvia. There were no injuries reported, according to Tisbury Police Lt. Bill Brigham. Lt. Brigham said the cruiser was able to drive away from the scene.

The incident marks the second time in about two years that a Tisbury Police cruiser has been hit by a dump truck. In February 2021, a dump truck sideswiped a Tisbury cruiser on the Lagoon Pond Bridge. A police officer suffered minor injuries from the incident, and the dump truck operator was cited.

  1. More fun reading about the Tisbury police department and the town in general. Will the officer write his own ticket and will he then appear in court to protest his own ticket?

  2. Bob, the driver of the dump truck was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign, not the officer. Or did you know that and were just trying to make a joke?
