Heard on Main Street: If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

The annual “Light Up the Lagoon” begins at 9 pm this Saturday and lasts about 30 minutes. Neighbors honor Lagoon Pond by bringing lights to the beaches, docks, and boats around the Lagoon and lighting them at 9, and light up their homes as well. The highlight will be an illuminated Parade of Boats that will travel the length of the Lagoon from Beach Road Bridge to the tip of the Lagoon, two miles away. (Anyone who wants to join in can contact the LPA at info@lagoonpondassoc.org for details.)

I’ve been enjoying the Tour de France on Peacock. Streaming means you have to sit through the ads, but another drawback is you can’t fast-forward through dreary minutes of watching the peloton. There was one major crash caused by areas of raised center lines on the road. This had tragic results, and should never have happened. You’d expect the folks planning the event to have at least traveled the roads before the Tour.

Last week it was a treat to hear the voice of an old friend. Barbara Peckham was back on-Island for a visit. Of course, her wonderful poems came to mind immediately. Some who move are instantly back in their place in your heart and conversation as soon as they arrive. She is certainly one of those.

Happy anniversary to Eric and Susan Lopes on Monday. Big bunches of birthday balloons go to Brent Clark and Linda Kurth tomorrow. Happy birthday to Barbara Flanders on Tuesday.

Heard on Main Street: Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back.
