Rebecca Gilbert and Randy Ben David have created a beautiful teaching farm with a small herd of adorable pygmy goats, and within the past few weeks, five kids were born. On Saturday, July 19, Baby Goat Yoga returns to Native Earth Teaching Farm. Classes are Mondays and Wednesday evenings, 5:30 to 6:30 pm, Saturday mornings, 10 to 11 am, and Thursdays they offer a Family-Friendly Yoga, 10 to 11 am. Register on the website, nativeearthteachingfarmmv.org.
Thank you, Thomas Bena, Ben Robinson, and Ian Douglas for hosting a gathering of strangers, neighbors, and friends representing seasonal and year-rounders, where we listen to experiences and perspectives on topics that many are in the habit of avoiding instead of exploring.
Chairs are set out in a circle. On the whiteboard: Are there seasonal and year-round differences? How do you experience the differences? What do the differences mean to you? What impact do they have on you?
A perfect recharge; figure out a way to join in the fun conversation.
We are appreciating places to rest, and after forgetting to put chairs in the car for Kathy Coe’s interment in Abel’s Hill, found that the memorial bench for Susan Murphy, her husband Lynn, and son Lynn II was perfectly placed, and designed to invite you to sit.
We are enjoying visiting all of the benches in Abel’s Hill, and Mum is thinking about what she’d like. Joan Bainbridge Safford invites us to rest and remember, and under the dates of her husband, Franklin Safford Pancho, are the words “wisdom, laughter.”
Katie Carroll mentioned that headstone restorer Bo Anselmo is undertaking the task of cleaning lichen off unreadable headstones, and looking to train volunteers. If interested, contact the Chilmark Cemetery Commission.
Last week I made a mistake with the renowned photographer Peter Simon’s name and was determined to apologize to Ronni in person. The gallery is off Tabor House Road, and well signed.
Her couches are comfortable, and this year’s calendar is remarkable. Each month has a spectacular photo of Martha’s Vineyard that relishes the time of year, and a mind-sparking quote. It also includes temperature and rain or snowfall averages, major holidays, and Island-specific memories. The 2026 Vineyard Calendar is the best one yet, and highlights her talents. Her wall art and jewelry are equally impressive.
Sig Van Raan reports: “On July 13, two games were played under sunny skies, and as always, a great supporting cast of spectators. Nothing noteworthy was reported other than the timeless magic of a Sunday morning softball game with a group of friends, families, fathers and sons, and daughters and mothers, and sons and daughters. It’s a timeless game, there is no clock, and we’re all just kids.”
Thank you for supporting the Chilmark Community Church’s Tuesday Lobster Roll sale, 4:30 to 6 pm, and Flea Market, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 2:00 pm.
Saturday, July 19, at 11 am at the Chilmark Community Church, there will be a memorial service for Margaret Ann Deitrich (Kammerer), of Chilmark. Her memory is a blessing.
