Today’s column I’m breaking up into the past and the future: I’m sharing what events I attended that were spectacular and what restaurants I’ve tasted along the way, and then I’m sharing what events should be on your calendar for the upcoming week. I’m trying to organize my life in a way that makes the most sense, and organizing how I write this column is part of my life — at least for this week. Here’s what happened last week.

Edgartown knows how to throw events and more specifically, nonprofit organizations such as the Vineyard Preservation Trust and the Trustees truly know how to host the most fabulous events! Both Generations Picnic and Meals in the Meadow 2025 took place last week, and I had the opportunity to attend them both. One was a Willy Wonka–themed event where I ended up drenching a brownie in a running milk chocolate fountain, and the other was a farm-friendly themed event where I ended up going home with a to-go box of my favorite dessert, the panna cotta and berries that V. Jaime Hamlin & Sons Catering makes. You can take the pastry chef out of the kitchen, but you can’t take the love of sweets out of the pastry chef. Aside from fantastic treats, both events were a perfect example of what happens when community, tradition, and thoughtful event planning come together — cheers to both teams for their successful events!

Last week truly was a foodie-forward one, where I had breakfast at Lucky Hank’s and fell in love with perfectly made omelettes all over again. That same week, I had delicious and locally sourced appetizers at the Covington, crispy fish and chips at the Newes from America, and ice cream at Toccopuro on South Water Street. All new-to-me bites that I’m suggesting you, hungry readers, stop in to taste! Pick up a bunch of sunflowers from Morning Glory Farm, and I’d call that a perfect weekend. Oh, and last but not least — my good friend Megan Shai-Brown opened her brand-new shop, Megan’s, at 22 Winter St. this past week. Make sure to support a locally owned shop and show Meg some love

Now, on to three events happening next week that I think you should jot down on your calendar: Kin invites you to an evening to benefit the Vineyard Preservation Trust with an art and fashion show called “See It Through” on July 17 at 5 pm at the John Coffin House. Tickets are available for purchase at Kin at 12A North Water St., or online at kinmv.com

Next up is the Possible Dreams Auction, and although tickets are sold out, you can still support the work of M.V. Community Services by joining them as a virtual attendee; more details on their site, bit.ly/MVCS_PossibleDreamsOnline.

Last but certainly not least, our coffee friend Mikhail will be having a book signing for his new book, “Stateless in Paradise,” on July 21 from 2 to 4 pm at Edgartown Books. Looking forward to reading it!

Birthday shout-outs this week go out to Alison Wilson (July 20) of the Edgartown Collection; to Skip Finley (July 23), celebrated local author and historian; and to the new priest of Good Shepherd Parish, the Rev. Joseph Pasala (July 23)!

I’d be remiss to not send birthday wishes in heaven to my little brother Martin (July 23), who never made it to Edgartown during his lifetime, but surely he’s swung by this town as an angel. Sending you all love and light this week and beyond!
