Heard on Main Street: If all is not lost, where is it?

The heavy winds and hard rain, about two weeks ago, caused minor flooding in my dining room and put out the flame on my gas heater, with water blowing in. I was lucky the heater in the cellar kept running. So we averaged about 60° keeping the door open. I was relieved that my son came soon to check it out. The only damage was we had cold days before we could get help to restart the heater, about a week after it all happened.

I’d not noticed the flooding, because the water was mostly soaked up by the rugs. Luckily for me, the sopping rugs were noticed by the cleaner, who was here two days later from Shine Bright Services. When she got to the dining room, she told me, “The rugs are wet.” She was wonderful. She then took the rugs outside to dry, and then went to work to soak up what she could with towels to try to prevent further damage.

Water pouring off the roof and diverted by the heater’s outdoor exhaust also collected inside the nearby greenhouse window. That wonderful woman also cleaned up most of the mess.

I must admit that I have been very pleased with Shine Bright Services; all the cleaners have been very good at their work, and helpful when necessary, especially so in this case. With my limited mobility, I depend on their service.

By last Friday I was missing my son, but enjoying the repaired heater and pretty much back to what is normal in my life. I was also pleased to be able to get outside and walk.

Except I just discovered by chance that I had a very large package from Amazon at the Post Office because UPS no longer delivers Amazon parcels, at least that is what I was told. I’m sure the folks at the Post Office are about as annoyed by this as I am.

Now I am looking forward to my daughter joining me for Thanksgiving, as well as the meals being prepared for us courtesy of the Black Dog Bakery. And so I will be properly thankful after all for the many blessings in my life. I find that I am sometimes too slow to recognize how many there are.

I cannot imagine how MJ Munafo can possibly be replaced, but congrats, MJ, for going out in pure splendor. You have done an amazing job, or I should say “jobs.” Well done.

Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out Thursday to Noreen Flanders, Craig Dripps, Adam Rogers, and Joseph P. Canha. On Friday, wish the best to Tracy Matthiess, MJ Munafo, Marion Burke, and Pamela Brock. Alexander Ray and Greg Coogan party on Sunday. Many happy returns to Chris Chandler on Wednesday.
