Being disagreed with is good for us.

Many are involved in responding to the finalized request for proposals for the management of the Chilmark Community Center Summer Program. They are due at 12 pm Jan. 5.

Thank you to all the town members who literally stood up and voiced concerns.

Thanks to the Chilmark Community Center Moderator’s Committee: Emily Bramhall, Linda Coutinho, Stephanie daRosa, John Diamond, Dan Karnovsky, Hillary Noyes-Keene, Matthew Poole, and Chair Janet Weidner, for engaging in a thorough review and delivering recommendations.

Thanks to our community for offering history and perspectives.

Thanks to Tim Carroll, our town administrator, and select board members Marie Larsen, Jeffrey Maida, and Matthew Poole for incorporating the committee’s recommendations into an RFP, and responding to publicly submitted comments.

May we support those who win the contract and continue –– planning, doing, assessing, and correcting.

Thank you to everyone who wrapped presents, set up, took, down, and hosted our Chilmark Kids’ Christmas Party in the Community Center.

Winter on the Island is beautiful.

The next Chilmark Potluck Jam is 6 pm, Jan. 3 in the Community Center.

The Chilmark Library is offering a drawing with nature class for teens and adults Saturday mornings in January, 10:30 am to noon. Registration required. Email chil.programs@gmail.com or visit www.chilmarklibrary.org.

The new Chilmark Preschool building will open and is welcoming toddlers for fall 2026. Their new program will serve toddlers from 15 to 33 months. They offer Reggio-inspired learning and care, where children are viewed as competent, curious, resourceful, and creative people.

Spaces are limited, and applications are available at www.chilmarkpreschool.com.

Please join us at the Chilmark Community Church at 5 pm for an evening of music, light, and food on Jan. 4. I am looking forward to planning the menu, but know I will make a pot of vegan cream of mushroom soup.

The Up-Island Council on Aging can offer free transportation for older adults to their Thursday lunches beginning Jan. 8. Call 508-693-2896 to register or for more information. Thank you to the VTA and Healthy Aging MV. It can be hard to coordinate rides, and this is a big help.

The most recent snow was enough to sled and sculpt. Students from the Charter School came to Native Earth Teaching Farm for a classroom visit and decided to create a snow goat. Rebecca inspires innovation and fun. The farm is open Sundays 1 to 4 pm, or you can call to book an appointment or class visit: 508-645-3304.

Due to the holidays, Rebecca and I will take a break and pick up the 2026 Slow Stitching Circle at Pathways Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 pm.

Pathways is showcasing young musicians starting at 4 pm on Dec. 27, followed by an after party with Mr. Starz. Come hear DAJ, Hannah Sparrow, Raveyardd, Rhubarb duo, the Kosh, the Divergents, Taxidermists, and L.A.B.
