We celebrate the life of Margaret Dykes Whitehouse (“Meg”), who passed away peacefully in her Chilmark home on Dec. 9, 2025, at the age of 68.

Born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., on Sept. 9, 1957, Meg brought passion, joy, and warmth to every part of her life –– qualities that endured even as she faced the degenerative neurological disease that ultimately ended her life.

An interior designer by trade, Meg poured her creativity into her work, and formed lasting relationships through it. Her artistic roots trace back to her days at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in industrial design in 1980.

Over the years, Meg became deeply connected to communities across southern New Hampshire and Martha’s Vineyard, places where her generosity and humor were instantly recognizable. Always active, Meg loved walking, playing tennis, and skiing. She found a particular sense of comfort in reading and gathering with community members at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury.

Meg is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Philip F. Curtin (“Phil”) of Chilmark; her daughter, Abigail W. Curtin (“Abbey”) of Boston; her son, Maxwell W. Curtin (“Max”) of Chicago; her brother, Harold J. Whitehouse (“Hal”) of Holden; and her sister, Dorothy S. Whitehouse Hathorne (“Dari”), and brother-in-law, Edward L. Hathorne (“Shred”), of Carolina Shores, N.C.

A celebration of Meg’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 pm, at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury. Visit chapmanfuneral.com for online guestbook and information.
