Oh, what a week! Attending my first Town Meeting was incredibly insightful, as I was quickly launched into campaigning for a position on the board of trustees for the Edgartown library. Thankful for the 114 write-in votes I received, and congratulations to my opponent, but you’ll absolutely see my name printed on the ballot next year!
Aside from local town politics, spring has officially bloomed in Edgartown — the forsythia is so bright and beautiful, the light rains we have received making the grass greener on both sides. It’s one of my favorite months on the Island, as the energy shifts from sleepy to wide-awake, and I’m here for it. If you’re still feeling a bit drowsy, may I also recommend you try the Miso Caramel Latte at Rosewater Market? It’ll put a pep in your step in the most delicious way possible.
April still gives us some time to get in as much rest and respite as we can, so the following two mentions include books and yarn, two hobbies that allow us to take some time for ourselves and slow down.
April 25th is Independent Bookstore Day, and Edgartown Books will have two Island authors signing in-store that day. Nicole Galland will be from 11 am to 1 pm, celebrating the paperback release of her latest book, “Boy.” And from 2 pm to 4 pm, Emma Brodie, this month’s Reese’s Book Club choice, will be signing her new book, “Into the Blue.”
On April 28 and 29 from 10 am to 3 pm, head to the Council on Aging for its Yarn Sale; cash and checks accepted. Proceeds will go to the Friends of the Council on Aging, in support of the work they do!
And again on the 29th, stop by the Edgartown library’s circulation desk to pick up a copy of a poem, carry it in your pocket, and share it with others. Poems by local writers will be included in their selection, which is such a fun initiative!
Happiest of birthdays to Crispin Haskins on April 24 and Ann McDonald Tyra on April 30 — two of my favorite Edgartown-loving people! Thanks for reading; if you have any birthdays, anniversaries, business updates, and more, please email me directly at marnely@gmail.com.
