It is a pleasure to receive emails. Larry Weiss sends news that grandson Tanner Weiss of Andover and Chilmark graduated Friday from Lawrence Academy in Groton. Tanner will be working at the FARM Institute in Edgartown this summer before heading to George Washington University in D.C. in the fall.

Congratulations. I graduated from GWU, and appreciated the breadth and depth of the offerings by professors and instructors who were actively involved in the application of knowledge and explicitly taught us to listen and learn, question and challenge assumptions, and seek to better understand — appreciating everything is evolving, and improvements come when we stand on knowledge as the base from which we will learn more.

The instructor who first opened my eyes and gave me a strong foundation was Phil Wirth. It is a pleasure to notice he is currently professor of decision sciences and of psychological brain sciences at the GWU School of Business.

Soon the softball games will resume.

The water and waves are calling, and so is the land.

Thank you to Polly Simpkins for brightening the winter and spring by offering her Cup of Karma at Stillpoint. Thanks to Albert Fischer for sharing your stories from the hysterical interaction with a cat, to the historic checking a house after a blizzard and finding the the door had blown off and drifts covered the couch and TV (“worst caretaker ever”); this winter my own storm door was ripped off its hinges.

Polly’s next Cup of Karma event at Stillpoint will be August 9, honoring three magnificent creative visionaries, Kate Taylor, Susie Middleton, and Margot Datz, who tell stories of those who inspired their creative journeys. Polly is also a DJ on WMVY, Saturdays, 6 am to noon, and Sundays, 11 am to 3 pm.

Beach passes go on sale this week.

Coast Guard Station Menemsha changed command last week. Congratulations, Chief Tyler Vanderhaden. We are thrilled for us and happy for his family. It is rare and wonderful to have someone from the station promoted to the top. Nick Sedberry’s promotion and next venture is in Washington, D.C.

I hope we can say every town voted for the renovation of the high school.

School is almost out, and the Tabernacle will host students and families on Friday for the awarding of prizes and scholarships; Sunday is graduation.

The new bus shelter at the Cliffs in Aquinnah is magnificent. It was funded by the Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority, built by Tim Larson, and championed by Jay Macleod. Congratulations to Molly Conole and Mark Alan Lovewell on the release of your new CD, “Home, Land and Sea.” They live up to their “making music, sharing joy.” To find out more and to book them for your next fun event, contact Molly Conole at 407-376-5273, or Mark Alan Lovewell at 508-560-0747.
