“It’s all happening!” –Penny Lane, “Almost Famous”
It certainly feels like it’s all happening in Oak Bluffs! The Harbor Festival kicked off summer last Saturday. It was a great time; thanks to all who put it together!
Be sure to check out the new community art installation by Galaxy Arts MV. The theme for “Art In The Park 2026” is housing, and the artists were asked to celebrate the architecture of the Oak Bluffs cottages. The result is 45 unique pieces, dotting the walking path around Sunset Lake. The art is stunning, and you can bid on each piece through an online auction which will benefit Harbor Homes. The art is up through July 4, and the auction ceremony will be on July 5 at the P.A. Club from 5 to 7 PM.
Truth and Joy Celebration is June 27, from 5 to 7 pm at the MVRHS Performing Arts Center.
This year, our superintendent of schools, Richie Smith, will receive the “Friend and Leader Award” from the M.V. Diversity Coalition for his commitment to Vineyard students and teachers. The winners of the Marie B. Allen Creative Arts challenge will also be honored, including Alex Wilson of Oak Bluffs. There will be music, dance, refreshments and more. Go to mvdiversitycoalition.org for more info.
Clothes to Go presents its third annual Fashion Show on June 27. Local models will showcase the unique secondhand styles available at its lovely center, where they have been providing free clothing for 17 years. Don’t miss this free event at 7 pm at the Tabernacle.
Tom Dresser is launching his new book, “Vineyard Vanguards,” with a party on June 30 from 1 to 3 pm at 7 Meadow Ave., Oak Bluffs. This is a collection of short biographies of Vineyarders who have left their mark on the Island. It’s a party; all are welcome!

Our June full moon is the Strawberry Moon, the first full moon of summer. When this moon rises just before sunset, it makes for the sweetest summer evening!
A great place to see the full moon will be on the lawn at Featherstone, as “Musical Mondays” on June 29 presents one of my favorites: Jon Zeeman and Joanne Cassidy. The music starts at 6:30 pm. Get your tickets the Monday before at featherstoneart.org.
