On July 11, at Featherstone Center for the Arts, Island Elderly Housing (IEH) will host a variety show to help raise awareness around the needs for some of the Island’s most vulnerable residents, especially during major storms like the one the community experienced this past winter.
“Many of our residents rely on medical devices, refrigerated medication, oxygen, and electrical equipment (beds, recliners). When heat and electricity go out, health and safety needs are compromised,” IEH board of directors member Kara Connors, M.P.H., said.
Money raised will be earmarked to support health and safety, sustainability, and self-sufficiency when Island emergency services are limited during weather related events.
“Jemima James, who has built a wonderful music community, has spearheaded this annual event, and we hope the Island will share their support of her incredible efforts,” continues Connors. “Our music benefit featuring Island favorites will be an event where music creates energy. Sponsorship opportunities are available.”
The show will feature musicians Johnny Hoy, Willy Mason, Delanie Pickering, Jessie Pinnick, Lexie Roth, Caroline Sky, Kate Taylor, Isaac Taylor, Nina Violet, Jemima James, and other special guests.
“This year we’ll be at the beautiful outdoor stage at Featherstone, where families can bring a picnic and beverage and enjoy some of our great island musicians. Goldie’s famous Food Truck will be there to make that easy and delicious,” Jemima James says.
