Circuit Arts and the M.V. Playhouse have joined forces, as you probably know. Their calendar is full of shows, concerts, and movies. This year, their annual Shakespeare at the Tisbury Amphitheater presentation will be “As You Like It,” and it opens on July 15. Shows are at 6 pm, and it only runs through August 8, so get your tickets for another magical evening with the talented troupe of local actors, including Liz Hartford, Paul Padua, Brad Austin, Katherine Reid, Emily Hewson, and more.
At the Drive-In this Friday, you can see “The Breakfast Club,” the best movie about being in detention in high school ever! Gates open at 7:45 pm, and the movie starts at 8:30. Pay-what-you-can at circuitarts.org.
The M.V. Book Festival presents its author series this summer with some exciting guests. On July 12, best-selling author Tayari Jones will discuss her new novel “Kin” with Michele Norris, awardwinning journalist. This will be at the MVRHS Performing Arts Center at 7 pm, tickets at mvbookfestival.org. Save the date of July 16 to see Dr. Jill Biden discuss her new memoir, “View From the East Wing,” with Sunny Hostin from ABC News and “The View.”
Under the tent at the MVCMA, on Friday, July 10, Kyle Williams of A Long Talk will speak. He brings a powerful message, designed to equip and empower people to actively interrupt ignorance and bigotry. More info at alongtalk.com.
Then, later in the day, the Tabernacle Sunset Concert series presents the Mike Benjamin Band from 6 to 7:30 pm. Free concert; bring your lawn chair and picnic.
July 11 is the popular Campground Flea Market, from 9 am to 1 pm. I always find some treasures at this one!
Music at Featherstone continues Monday, July 13, with the amazing Stan Strickland and Joel Harrison group. Thanks to Ann Smith and Featherstone staff for sharing their beautiful space for these outdoor concerts! Tickets are available one week ahead at featherstoneart.org.
Happy birthday to Tom Hanks on July 9! Happy summer AND Happy birthday to Doreen Marino and Jennifer Bausman on July 10 — they share the day with Mavis Staples. Piano man David Crohan celebrates on July 11! Nancy Salon also has her day on the 11th, and we remember Dennis daRosa. My grandson Augie Cheney turns 9 on July 13, and on the same day we sing “Happy Birthday” to Serena LaVoie and Buffy Knight Carroll. July 14 is the day to celebrate Mikey Waters, the master of finding lost objects. On July 15, birthday hugs go to the fabulous Laurel Redington. Helene Albert and Ed Monette celebrate on the 15th also.
