Last week’s traumatic accident has us reeling and praying for Michael, Brenna, Nolan, Bryan, and Nathaniel Ellis. Praying the family feels strengthened by the love and support that is and will continue to be there for them, no matter how long it takes.

It’s impossible to ignore the undercurrent of worry about tick-borne illnesses and the very real experience of those illnesses. Mitigating the worry isn’t as easy as preventive measures and tick checks with a sense of humor. Perhaps today’s worry can be lessened by the knowledge that as Tick Free MV’s executive director, Virginia Barbatti reminds us much is being done.
Indigo Sundays at Native Earth Teaching Farm have started again. The community vat of indigo is available from 2 to 5 pm. Bring something to dye, or you can purchase something there.
The Chilmark library and Chilmark Community Center continue to offer wonderful gatherings, talks and events all week.
North Tabor Farm’s veggies are in, and we are encouraged by the announcement there will be some open-to-the-public farm suppers.

Sig Van Raan has been away, but thanks to co-commissioner Ed Eger for the following notes from the softball field: “A perfectly beautiful Sunday morning and a full house of players and spectators. A guy named Jake came with his dad, who was celebrating his 85th birthday.
“Hans Solmssen celebrated turning 90 with a strong pitched first game. Junior Farrel hit another mammoth shot over everything. Caleb Caldwell pitched a strong second (bullpen) game — one of the outfielders made a throw to home plate that sailed through the backstop into tick territory.
“Katie and Ben Coates came with their brand-new baby. Again a great assortment of young and old players, kids and dogs, and loyal fans. Time stands still on Peaked Hill.”
