To the Editor:
“A strain on public safety” (August 6)? What did you expect? Defunding the police, getting rid of ICE, judges letting criminals off. Every day I watch children on motorized bikes doing wheelies against the flow of traffic on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, and every day I say to myself, “Where are the cops?”
In the 1960s and ’70s, when I was a youth, Main Street in Vineyard Haven had three tough adult police officers in full uniform, spread out, one near Brickman’s, another by the Capawock, and the third past Leslie’s Drug Store, and they were there all day assisting people and enforcing regulations. It was great.
