“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”  –William Shakespeare

I agree with Shakespeare, as summer does seem too short when September suddenly arrives! On this Island we are lucky, because September usually brings us an extension of lovely weather without the crowds and chaos. Summer vacations may be over, but this is when we remember how lucky we are to live here!

Besides parking spaces, September means Tivoli Day, which is coming on Sept. 19. More later!

Our library has some ocean-oriented events on its calendar to celebrate Maritime month. Sept. 44 is Family Fishing Friday; you can join Jonathan on the fishing pier from 9:30 to 11:30 and learn to fish! No experience or equipment needed. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, it will host Skippy Scallop Storytime and Touch Tank at 10:15 am. Check out the calendar for more activities throughout the month. These activities and all the programs offered by the library are supported by the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs, who volunteer their time to raise funds through book sales and other fundraisers to keep the library the vibrant community hub that it is. Thank you!

Gina Patti and Rob Oslyn will have a full house, with all the kids home to celebrate Rob’s 70th birthday over Labor Day weekend. Granddaughter Lucy Elizabeth is having her first Island visit, with parents Justin and Hannah in tow. Grace, Sam, and Kaya will be arriving to join the festivities, and Gina will be happily keeping everyone fed.

The Sunset Concert Series on the lawn at the Tabernacle closes out the season with Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish on Friday, Sept. 4, 6 to 7:30 pm.

Sundays in the Park Concerts features the Lunarchs on Sunday, Sept. 6. Note the time change for September and October: the music will be from 5 to 7 pm.

Seniors in our community have many options for assistance, including active senior centers in every town that offer many exercise programs, game days, information sessions on pertinent topics, and learning opportunities. Tech Pro MV offers help with a wide range of common technology needs, including smartphones, computers, printers — and all the apps needed to access healthcare, email, and video conferencing. Learn more about the program at techpromv.org, or call the O.B. senior center at 508-693-4509.

If you see Bob Pacheco on Sept. 3, sing “Happy Birthday,” and tell him to take the rest of the day off! James Walton also celebrates on the 3rd. Sept. 4 is the day for Kathleen Forsythe to celebrate! Happy anniversary to Jennie and Jeremy Driesen on Sept. 5! On the 5th, we also wish a joy-filled day to Polar Bear extraordinaire Caroline Hunter!

Alexandra Clark, Rachel Ben David, Molly Chvatal, Laurie Mazer, and Dawn Evans all celebrate on the 5th; happy birthday to you all! Sept. 6 is the day for Skylar Hall and Erica deForest. Susan Phillips celebrates on Sept. 7, along with Holly Hawks. I hope Gina Patti gets some beach time on her birthday, Sept. 9!
