The season is changing and the Menemsha Galley is closed. The fishing continues.

Emily Broderick leads the Chilmark Community Church team in the three-mile Martha’s Vineyard CROP Hunger Walk on Oct. 18 at 1:30 pm, starting at St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven. After a long day, doodling over stains and coloring old lace with fabric pens is super-satisfying. 

Chilmarkers can donate instead of trashing dry and clean clothing and household textiles, this week.

  • Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 7 and 8, at the Chilmark School, 8 am to 2:30 pm.
  • Friday, Oct. 9: Menemsha Cross Road Fire Station, 8 am to 5 pm.
  • Saturday, Oct. 10: Chilmark library, 10:30 am to 5 pm.
  • Sunday, Oct. 11: Chilmark LDO, 1 to 5 pm.

Donations will be sorted and delivered to the Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust, Chicken Alley, and the Red Cross.

Nancy Aronie invites us to join her dear friend, teacher, and author, Mirabai Bush, in conversation on Oct. 9 at 4 pm, 1 West Meadow, Chilmark. Mirabai will read from her new memoir, “Almost Home,” and talk about her long and beautiful relationship with Ram Dass and the writing of the landmark book “Walking Each Other Home.”

The M.V. League of Women Voters is hosting a Candidate Forum for countywide offices on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 pm at the Edgartown library, and on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3 pm, offers an informational tea at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. 

Kara Taylor Gallery is closing after 1- years at the original Stanley Murphy Gallery. Come celebrate Saturday, Oct. 10, 4 to 7 pm, 24 South Road.

Rebecca Gilbert talks foraging for nuts at the “Friends, Foraging, and Fermenting” event at the Chilmark library, Saturday, Oct. 10, 1 to 3 pm.
