The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) celebrates culture, identity, and community with the 2026 Powwow this weekend, Sept. 12 and 13, at the Aquinnah Circle. The community is invited to share the experience with music, dance, song, storytelling, food, and shared traditions. Gates open at 11 am each day; there is a fee for non–tribal members.
Featherstone presents the 15th annual Potter’s Bowl on Sunday, Sept. 13. Fill a handcrafted bowl with delicious soup made by local chefs, with accompanying Island bread, and enjoy a late-summer community meal from 4 to 6 pm with neighbors and friends — and take the bowl home afterward. This affordable, community-focused event raises funds for our cultural treasure, Featherstone Center for the Arts.
Sunday in the Park Concerts are continuing into October. This Sunday, the 13th, it will be Serendipity. Bring your picnic and chairs to Ocean Park to enjoy the music from 5 to 7 pm.
Get your tackle ready! The 81st Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby begins on Sunday, Sept. 13, bringing anglers from all corners of the Island and all over the country to compete for prizes and bragging rights. The Derby contributes a lot to the community, with free fresh fish distributed to senior centers and the Food Pantry, and scholarships awarded to local high school seniors. Save the date for the 24th annual George V. Tankard Jr. Memorial 5K Road Race on Saturday, Sept. 19. This fun and beautiful race around East Chop benefits the scholarship programs of the NAACP in honor of Tankard, who was an active member of the NAACP and the Oak Bluffs community. You can run or walk to participate, and either way you will get a cool T shirt and lots of applause at the finish line! You can register in advance or on the day before the race at Summercamp Hotel.
