Last Sunday the fire engine came roaring up Main Street with flashing lights, screaming sirens, and honking horn. Santa was on top, waving to everyone. There was a reindeer, too. Did you see him?

It’s that time of year. If you have a child entering kindergarten next September, call Barbara Armstrong at the Tisbury School, 508-696-6500, to ask for a kindergarten registration packet for the 2015-2016 school year. Kindergarten children must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2015.
Friday is the holiday lighting of the Edgartown lighthouse in front of the Harbor View Hotel. Hot chocolate, holiday goodies, and music will be offered at 5 pm on the hotel porch. The lighting is at 6 pm.

Shops and businesses welcome guests for Saturday Strolls this month in Vineyard Haven from 4 to 6 pm. Stop by the Vineyard Playhouse for a tour of the new facility. Some shops are offering special sales just for you.
Come to the annual Holiday Open House at the Tisbury Senior Center on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm with the MVRHS Minnesingers, refreshments, and door prizes. Free and open to the public.

Tickets for Monday night at the Movies with Jamie Alley at the MV Playhouse are $5 cash at the door. This Monday at 7:30 pm see Has Anybody Seen My Gal with Rock Hudson and Piper Laurie, a family comedy about a wealthy recluse who leaves his fortune to the family of his first love. He then poses as a boarder to see how money changes their lives.
The Vineyard Haven Library offers movie night on Tuesday at 7 pm when you can see The Hundred Foot Journey with Helen Mirren and Om Puri. Beef bourguignon or tandoori goat? A family from India opens an Indian restaurant across the street from a fancy French restaurant run by Helen Mirren. You can have it all in this, including free popcorn and cider.
Next Tuesday at 7:30 pm see the Holiday Show at the MV Film Society. Tickets are $15, $12 members, $7 for children under 14. This is storytelling and music by Susan Klein, Alan Brigish, and Gary Girouard, highlighting the stories, images, and music of Christmas. Doors open 6:30 pm for eggnog and Christmas carols.
You are invited to the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury for contemplative services at 5:30 on Wednesday evening next week. The service will focus on Healing and Transforming.
The Hospice candlelight concert will be Wednesday at Trinity Church in the Campground at 7 pm. Proceeds go to Hospice.
