Wasn’t in great to see some ground free of snow after the rains of last weekend? It was rather startling to hear the crashes of thunder and then the winds blowing so hard through the night, but it did a great clean-up job.
In spite of our complaining, we were luckier than many off-Island. Stories have reached us from relatives in Connecticut and the western part of the state, of snow depths reaching to the bottom of their windows, and their getting stuck in the deep snow when trying to walk outside.
Play the latest Wii games with Miss Sondra at our library on Friday, Feb. 11, from 3 to 5 pm as ‘Tween Wii Night for ages 8-11 years continues on the 2nd Friday each month through June; and it’s free. On Saturday, Feb. 12, from 11 am to 12:30 pm meet the storybook character Corduroy! Enjoy his stories and make a special craft at this special program, also free.
The second grade annual food pantry drive at the Oak Bluffs School has been taking place all this week and will run through Friday, Feb. 11. Students from the second-grade have been collecting donations from each classroom every day. This year will mark the 22nd year of food collecting at the school. The folks at the Island Food Pantry really count on our school’s annual drive, so please be generous!
Belated birthday wishes to Rosemary Brown, who celebrated on February 7. She is now back in her “hometown” of Oak Bluffs after living in Vineyard Haven for a few years.
We met in the ’80s when she lived in Oak Bluffs at the State Police Barracks while her husband, the late Tom Brown, was stationed there. Then she moved back to my hometown and old neighborhood of Daggett Ave. in Vineyard Haven. From there it was on to Havenside for a couple of years and now she has come back to Oak Bluffs again. We need a road map to keep track of her travels.
