Unlike the bird that inspired its name, the Heath Hen Yarn and Quilt Shop located at Tisbury Marketplace in Vineyard Haven has escaped extinction.
Jan Paul, a West Tisbury artist, purchased the long-standing business from owner Lynne Benson on October 26. Ms. Benson is moving to North Carolina and put the business up for sale in July, according to a press release. She planned to close by Halloween if it did not sell. With the deadline fast approaching, Ms. Paul’s purchase gave the Heath Hen a reprieve.
The Heath Hen will remain open until November 12 and continue selling yarns, fabric, and needlecraft accessories. Ms. Paul plans to reopen the business in the spring of 2012 at a new location to be announced, the press release said.
