This year the Family to Family Program of Serving Hands Food Distribution is working to ensure that our Island families who are in need will have a great Easter/Spring meal. The effort asks for donors willing to sponsor one of these families by contributing the cost of one family’s meal, or $25.
At Family to Family’s Thanksgiving distribution, volunteers provided 189 meals, and they hope to do the same for Easter.
“The weather has been warmer and spring is on the way, but for most families that depend on Serving Hands and Family to Family, nothing changes,” Betty Burton of Family to Family said in a press statement, “most are on a fixed income. Easter is the most important holiday for those of the Christian faith. I hope we can help supply this very important meal. One family sharing with another is a wonderful way to celebrate an Island Easter.”
The spring basket will include a ham, five pounds of potatoes, two pounds of onions, a pound of carrots, four pounds of apples, four pounds of oranges, fresh sweet potatoes, and a dozen eggs.
Family to Family will distribute the meals in time for Easter. Family to Family welcomes checks made out to the Vineyard Committee on Hunger. Indicate that your donation is for the Family-to-Family Program and address it to: Vineyard Committee on Hunger (VCOH), PO Box 4685, Vineyard Haven 02568. “It is never too late to help,” Ms. Burton adds.
