Session players have more talent than they have fame. Their names are on the back of the album rather than the front, but in the music industry, their pedigree is assured. Sessions players aren’t the stars; they’re who the stars go to when they need the best musicians to be found; and they’re who will be playing at Hooked on Beach Road in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, July 28, at 9 pm.
A “Super Group” consisting of four of the music industries most notable session players will play one night only here. These four musicians were chosen to play on the studio recordings of some of the most well-known musical acts in America.
To name just a couple of the four musicians’ credits, drummer Rick Marotta has played with Steely Dan, Warren Zevon, and Paul Simon. Guitarist Joe Caro has played with Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, and Lenny Kravitz. Bassist Neil Stubenhaus has played with Sting, Chaka Khan, and Barbara Streisand. Keys player Jon Gilutin has worked with James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, and Diana Ross.
