Edgartown

Well, it seems as though there is a lot of action going on in those other towns this week, what with Illumination Night, the Fair, and the O.B. Fireworks. This is all very well and good as we have welcomed several new pint-sized E-tonians into the fold this week, and their parents would probably appreciate it if we could keep it down a little while the newborns nap.

Among these new additions, we welcome Benjamin King Sylvia, son of Jake and Annie, who made his debut August 4 at Falmouth Hospital, weighing in at 7 lb., 7 oz. Next, Keith and Whitney Fullin and big sister Emery greeted Bo Katherine Fullin on August 5 at M.V. Hospital, weighing 7 lb., 11 oz. And finally, we say hello to Grace Norma Hawkins O’Hanlon, daughter of Tom and Jen, whose adorable little mug made its first appearance at Falmouth Hospital August 7, also weighing 7 lb., 7 oz. And there you have Edgartown Eagles, class of 2025. Can’t wait to watch you all grow.

The Avakians hosted Gail’s sister Sharyn Duehring, nephew Andew Pearson, and Andrew’s children, Alyssa and Aidan, over the weekend. The children had a blast hanging out by the pool, and stuffing their faces at the Candy Bazaar and Sharky’s. Everyone has since headed back to Rhode Island until next time.

This week, the Edgartown Fire Department will take on the responsibility of extinguishing our insatiable pancake cravings, offering an open house on Sunday, August 19, from 8 am to 12 pm. In addition to those glorious disks of browned batter swimming in a golden sea of sweet, sweet maple elixir, the event will include rescue demonstrations and family fun. So grab a fork, throw on a bib, and head on down.

The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music society will host acclaimed St. Petersburg String Quartet on August 20, at the Old Whaling Church and August 21, at the Chilmark Community Center. Both performances will begin at 8 pm. The esteemed St. Petersburg Quartet, fresh from recent appearances in New York at Carnegie Hall and a six-concert series at Bargemusic (Brooklyn), will close the 42nd season of the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society. The major work to be performed will be the celebrated Piano Quintet in F minor by Johannes Brahms in which the Vineyard’s own acclaimed pianist,

MVCMS Artistic Director Delores Stevens will join the Russian group. For information, call 508-696-8055 or visit mvcms.org.

Get on up to Flatbread Pizza on August 21 from 5 to 9 pm to benefit Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard. Special guests the Vineyard Sound are scheduled to make an appearance around 7 pm, so go munch on some dinner and listen to some tunes. For more info, call 508-693-0189.

Birthday wishes go out to Braden Moriarty, who celebrates August 16; to Corrigan Mello August 18; and to Lynn Ditchfield, Laura Townes, and Katie Fahey who celebrate August 21. Hope you all have a good one.
