The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School varsity girls basketball team remained unbeaten at 6-0 after winning the second annual Stripes tournament in Mashpee on Saturday.
The Vineyarders defeated Nauset, 51-29, in the championship game. The Purple defense held the Warriors scoreless in the first quarter when they forced seven turnovers.
Jenny Lindland scored 22 points to lead M.V. and Lucy Hackney added nine more. Katie Stewart and Kendall Robinson each scored six.
The Vineyarders trounced Upper Cape Tech, 71-39, in the tournament opener on December 27. Kat deBettencourt led M.V. with 20 points. Jenny Lindland scored 16; Kendall Robinson and Katie Stewart had 10 each.
The girls returned home to the Sancy between Stripes games and beat the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins on Friday, 65-25. Four Vineyarders reached double figures: Jenny Lindland (19 points), Kat deBettencourt (11), Sam Hargy (11), and Lucy Hackney (11).
Boys hoops
The boys varsity got off to a good start in the Stripes by beating Cape Cod Academy 70-66 on December 27 in Bourne. Five Vineyarders scored in double digits. Jack Roberts and Navardo Anderson both scored 14 while Izak Browne, Brandon Watkins, and Liam Weston each had 12.
M.V. met the hosts Mashpee in the championship game on Saturday and lost, 68-64.
In between the action in the Stripes tournament, the Vineyarders traveled to Dennis-Yarmouth on Friday and atoned for an embarrassing home defeat on December 15 with a 72-51 win. The Purple and White broke the game open in the final period by outscoring the Dolphins 23-10.
The Vineyarders host Eastern Athletic Conference foe Bishop Feehan on Tuesday at 4:30 pm.
