Martha’s Vineyard picked up two crucial points in a 3-1 Southeast Mass. Girls Hockey League win Wednesday afternoon over Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham at the M.V. Arena.
The Vineyarders improved to 7-4-2 overall and 6-4-2 in league play. M.V. needs five points in the final seven games to clinch a berth in the state tournament for the second consecutive year.
Aubrey Ashmun put the hosts on the board at 6:14 of the first period. BMW tied the game at 4:34 of the second stanza, but Ashmun restored the Vineyard lead and scored the winning goal with 19 seconds left in the period. Kassidy Bettencourt put the Vineyard win on ice with an insurance goal in the third.
Netminder Katy Smith, making her second start this season between the pipes picked up the win.
The Vineyarders host league foe Hanover Saturday at 1 pm.
