The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys tennis team won its second consecutive MIAA Division 3 South Sectional title with a 5-0 win over top-seeded Westport (21-1) Saturday afternoon at the Dick Norman courts in Marstons Mills.

The Vineyarders advanced to the Division 3 state semifinals to meet the Northern Mass. champion, either Weston or Bedford, Monday at Newton North High School.

Westport, which finished the regular season at 19-0 was ranked as the top seed by the numbers only. The Vineyarders played a strong non-conference schedule with multiple matches against teams the likes of Cape Cod Academy, Falmouth, Dover-Sherborn, and Division 1 Barnstable.

In the South final, Westport was up against it from the start, playing without number one singles player Chris Rosa, who had a prior committment. The second-seeded Vineyarders (19-1) needed just 53 minutes to dispatch the previously unbeaten Wildcats.

Kent Leonard won at second singles, 6-0, 6-0, over George Machairas. Jackson McBride and Patrick McCarthy won by the same count over Rich Hartnett and Scott Raudonaitis at first doubles. Second doubles duo Justin Smith and Ryan Sawyer downed Tom Yeargin and Dalton Bryant, 6-0, 6-2.

In the best matches of the day, Justice Yennie defeated Lyle Rosa, 6-3, 6-0, at third singles, while Natty Schneider topped Chris Hartnett, 6-1, 6-3, at first singles.
