Robert I. (Bob) Hope died on June 13, after a short illness. He was 74.
Born on the Island, he grew up in Vineyard Haven and graduated from Tisbury High School in 1957.
He served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He worked for Long Island Light Co. from 1966 to 1984.
Robert had a twin brother, Roy Hope of Buzzards Bay, and a sister, Marcia Merrill of Vineyard Haven. He enjoyed making trips to the Island to go fishing and hunting with his brother and to attend class reunions.
He was married to Loraine Ascerno in 1992.
Robert was the father of three children: Jeanne and her husband, Steve, of Florida; Robert and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Long Island, and Edward and his wife, Lillian, of Long Island. He is survived by six grandchildren, Angelo and Dominic, Anthony and Brian, and Robert and Cassie Lyn; and two step grandchildren, Brittany and Amanda, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife, Patricia Hope.
Robert was buried in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
