Tivoli Day is this Saturday, and that really sounds like fall is here. But of course summer has to get in one of its hazy, hot, and humid periods first. But it will only last for a couple of days, and it is back to my favorite weather again. Tivoli Day is Oak Bluffs’s fall festival with activities for all ages.

You could enjoy a Pancake Breakfast on Tivoli Day from 8 to 10 am at the Trinity Methodist parish house in Campground. They will be serving pancakes and sausage, scrambled eggs and coffee at a bargain price of $8 for adults and $5 for children.

The Annual Ring Challenge is this Saturday so come show your skills and see who will be the champion at catching the most rings in this annual fundraiser to support the Jena Pothier Flying Horses Scholarship Fund. All of the proceeds benefit MVRHS students. There are four different classes: Mini Junior up to age 8, Junior (8 to 15), Adult (16 and up), and of course the Professional: any age and you know who you are! There is a $10 entry fee and a table will be set up to register participants all during Tivoli Day. The event starts at 4:30 pm.

Alicia Oliveira drove to American University in Washington, D.C., where she is a junior. Not only is she a student there, but after an interview for an internship with Congressman Bill Keating, she was fortunate to be chosen for this position. She keeps busy at this position fielding phone calls and many questions and thoroughly enjoys this interesting part of her education.

Labor Day has come and gone, school has begun, and most summer activities have ended. However Grace Church Lobster Rolls will continue to be sold until the end of the month. On every Friday from 4 to 7:30 pm through Sept. 27, you can still enjoy your lobster roll and pie; hot dogs are available too.

The Sunday school registration on Sunday, September 15, at First Baptist Church on Spring and William Streets in Vineyard Haven for children aged four to fourteen will take place following the Rally Day Music Celebration during 11 am Sunday Worship. Join them on Rally Day! Or call 508-593-1539 for more information or to Register.

If you think there is nothing to do after summer ends, take a look at the interesting activities that will take place at our Oak Bluffs Library. There will be a MV Writers Retreat Reading on Thursday, September 12, at 6 pm and at 6 pm on October 10. Writers will read their new works — poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. The Cloak & Dagger Literary Society will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 am. This group meets monthly to discuss a different type of mystery. This month: Police procedural.
