Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. We have had quite an interesting week so far with a vicious drop in temperature, a wild and ultimately victorious Patriots game, family and friends coming and going for the holiday and of course the ever-present howling winter wind of Aquinnah. I hope everyone is safe and sound with their loved ones and that everyone has plenty to eat and a roof over their heads. When the weather gets this cold I am always reminded of how lucky we are and how much we have to be grateful for.

Welcome home Anne Vanderhoop! What a happy Thanksgiving gift for the whole Vanderhoop family. Anne returned to her home last week after three weeks in rehab for a broken hip. She is using a walker but is so much better and making progress every day.

The town of Aquinnah is seeking town residents for two committees: Vineyard Health Care Access Program Oversight Board (one appointee and one alternate) and the Town of Aquinnah Finance and Advisory Committee (two appointees). For the VHCAP committee, membership is appointed through the Board of Selectmen (BOS) for one year. The committee meets once a month for a couple of hours. If you are interested you should submit a letter of interest to: Town Administrator Adam Wilson, 65 State Rd., Aquinnah, MA 02535 or email

For the FinCom, membership is also submitted through the BOS and is valid for one year. The committee meets frequently during the late winter budget season and as needed the rest of the year. The town really needs to fill these positions to assist with the 2014 budget. If you are interested you can submit a letter of interest to Town Moderator Michael Hebert at 65 State Rd. Aquinnah, MA 02535 or email

A reminder that there will be a service for Doris Hamel of Lighthouse Road on Friday, November 29 at 1 pm at the Gay Head Baptist Church.

At the Library on Saturday the craft will be all about Legos! I really wish I was here for this one. I am a very good Lego builder, having had a lot of practice as a kid and now as a parent. Craft time is from 12 noon to 3 pm.

Joan LeLacheur will have an open studio this Saturday, 10 am–5 pm at 42 Old South Road. She will have her beautiful jewelry for sale that incorporates wampum beads, conch, moon snail, and abalone and mussel shells. Call her at 508-645-9954 or email her at

I know that today is Thanksgiving, but we have started planning the town Christmas party and help is needed especially with setting up and breaking down. It will be a potluck dinner as well so please plan to bring a dish to share. The tentative date is Monday, December 23, but it has not been confirmed. I should have confirmation of the date by next week.

Happy birthday to Noni Smith tomorrow.
