Oak Bluffs: Travel plans and fun at home

I guess we just have to go day by day as far as weather is concerned. I still had a few logs left by my woodstove and just as I was thinking of moving them into the shed for the summer, I used them up on that chilly Saturday. That saved me a job, but I would rather have had the heat from the sun at this time of year.

Melanie and Matt Marchand and their children, Matt, Katie, Abbe, and Andrew had a great family vacation last week. They traveled to Naples, Florida, and also took in the sights at Disney World. Between sightseeing and the rare chance of time together, the vacation was a wonderful family experience.

Learn to be creative with iPad painting and drawing with Miki. Bring your iPad and come to the iPad Art Workshop at our Library on Tuesday, May 6, at 2 pm. Then on Thursday, May 8, at 6:30 pm, Stephanie Smith will be reading from her new book “Content Burns” from the Warpaint trilogy.

The Annual May Musical Tea held at the Parish Hall of the First Baptist Church will be held on Saturday, May 3, 1-3 pm. In addition to their traditional musical offerings by Martha Child and Friends, bake sale and white elephant table, this year’s tea will feature a Hat Contest. Come wearing a hat creation to the tea. Prizes will be awarded for the prettiest, most creative, funniest, etc. Tea, sandwiches and cake will be served throughout the program. You may stop by at any time, stay for a few minutes, stay for an hour or relax and enjoy the entire musical afternoon. Call the First Baptist Church office at 508-693-1539 for more information.

Tomorrow night at 6 pm is the annual P-A club scholarship auction. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6 to 7 pm, followed by the auction. There are some wonderful items, including Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots ticket packages, many dinner gift cards and numerous other articles to bid on. A $5 donation is requested at the door.

Another P-A fish fry if coming up next Thursday, May 8. Come to the club anytime between 5 and 7 pm for a great fish fry with numerous sides and desserts.

Stephanie White is anticipating an upcoming trip to France this month, where she will visit her daughter, Sudara. Sudara has been living and working in central France for the past two years, and it has taken that long for her to persuade her mom to come and visit her. But Stephanie is very excited to be going there, not only to tour around France but also to have special time with her daughter.

We send birthday smiles to my granddaughter Paige Elizabeth Alley, all the way to Australia where she celebrated her 9th birthday on April 28, to Skip Campos on May 4, Fred Hall Jr. and Todd Alexander on the 5th, and Liza Cottrell on May 8. Best wishes to Andy and Kathy Farrissey who celebrate their wedding anniversary on May 6.

Enjoy your week. Peace.
