You have to admit last week’s weather was simply lovely while it lasted. And our fall colors are beginning to appear, especially on the nasty vine that tangles over everything in sight. The pretty leaves on the Bradford pear trees along Clough Lane are just starting to turn now.

Many, many thanks to the wonderful people we have at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Donald is now home and much improved because of all their work.
Richard Paradise offers a photo exhibit of his own work as well as multimedia collaborations with Susan Klein and local musicians, and a pre-release movie, Monk With A Camera, at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center at 3:30 pm on Sunday.
Is this an issue on our island? Rural Scholars from UMASS School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Nursing are here through October 30 looking into elder abuse prevention on the Vineyard. They will interview community professionals who provide services for elders and then make recommendations. The public is invited to this at the West Tisbury Library next Thursday from 4:30 to 6 pm.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum has a new exhibit through November 11, “Mourning Practices in the 19th Century.” The artifacts show how people on Martha’s Vineyard dealt with the loss of loved ones during the 1800s.
Thursday at 5:30 pm, Tom Dresser and Jerry Muskin present Music On Martha’s Vineyard: A History of Harmony at the Museum. They explore the homegrown music scene and the summer stars who keep islanders and visitors moving to the beat. Donations appreciated. Books will be available.
On Sunday at the Museum will be the second annual Halloween Festival combined with the Nancy Luce 200th Birthday Celebration. That is from noon to 2 pm at the Museum’s Vineyard Haven property at 151 Lagoon Pond Road. Bring the family to decorate gingerbread gravestone cookies, create Nancy’s fancy letters on coloring pages, and make chicken hats. Enjoy spider web hopscotch, play Halloween eye spy, and decorate pumpkins with your favorite designs. Come in costume. Free and open to all.
