Best wishes for a rapid recovery go out to Steve Nichols. He is in rehab at Brewster while he learns how to break in his new hip.

The Theory of Everything is the extraordinary story of the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking receives an earth-shattering diagnosis at age 21. With Wilde fighting by his side, Hawking embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of — time. Together they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed. 7:30 pm tonight at the MV Film Center.

Monday night at the movies with Jamie Alley features The Night of the Iguana with Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and Deborah Kerr. A defrocked Episcopal minister, leading a tour group of Baptist schoolteachers, has a nervous breakdown at the jungle hotel of an old friend in Mexico. He confronts his demons and examines his life. One of the best screen adaptations of Tennessee Williams’s work. $5 at the Vineyard Playhouse at 7:30 pm.

The Vineyard Haven Library offers a free movie on Tuesday called The Good Lie. They were known as the Lost Boys. Orphaned by the brutal civil war in Sudan that began in 1983, these young victims traveled as many as a thousand miles on foot in search of safety. Fifteen years later, a humanitarian effort would bring 3,600 lost boys and girls to America.

The Tisbury Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen invite you to a Community Vision Planning Meeting on Wednesday at 7 pm at the Tisbury Senior Center. They will review the vision-planning process, and present plans for action. They want to know what you think about the short- and long-term priorities. They hope to set a working agenda for elected officials and town committees. This is your town. It is up to you what it becomes in the future.

Classes in such things as pottery and drawing are open now at Featherstone. Also call 508-693-1850 now if you’d like to travel to the Worcester Art Museum for the Flora in Winter show next Thursday.

On Saturday the MV Playhouse offers a Winter Cabaret called Wicket Good at 7:30 pm. Enjoy lively music and lovely voices with Molly Conole, Shelagh Hackett, Paul Munafo, and Ken Romero. Tickets for reserved seating are $23 in advance.

Everyone is invited. Come to the fair!

Be proud of our high school and the students. Every one of you is invited to the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School 2015 Science and Engineering Fair, which is only open for one hour from 11:15 am, a week from Saturday on Feb. 7. Learn about hands-on science from the next generation of scientists. The students ask good questions about interesting topics, and then work out methods to obtain data and test ideas. Finally they present their work to judges, parents, peers, and to you and me. They do this with enthusiasm, poise, pride, and delight. As part of the fair, the Marine & Paleobiological Research Institute (MPRI) sponsors an award to recognize an outstanding marine or coastal-science project. Last year MPRI recognized Mary McCarthy and Lena Hanschka for “The Effect of Different Salinities on Brine Shrimp.” MPRI aims to preserve our world fossil heritage. They bring fossils into classrooms and celebrate National Fossil Day in October at the Oak Bluffs Library. More at MPRInstitute.org.

Big bunches of birthday-balloon wishes go out to Caroline Davey on Tuesday.
