Family and friends are very grateful to the Tisbury police, firefighters, EMTs, and the hospital staff for taking such good care of Grace Sundman-Burton. Now resting at home, she hopes to be OK in a week or two. We all know how fortunate we are to have these emergency people here when we need them.

Many of us were happily expecting the birth of baby Mark Immelt Whelden when the unthinkable happened. Suddenly there was no more heartbeat. Labor was induced, and the baby was stillborn. One in 160 births results in a stillborn child. The bereaved parents wanted to cuddle their baby a little before letting go forever. In memory of baby Mark, there is a fundraising campaign for Cuddle Cots. These beds cool the body temperature and preserve the stillborn child so the parents have more time to say goodbye. Help other parents at our hospital cope with their loss by donating to the fundraising campaign for Cuddle Cots. More at: http://de.gofund.me/rxy6hs.
How good to see so many of our snowbirds returning. And summer folk are coming to open their houses. Suddenly the sun is shining and many friends are back among us. Welcome home.

Have you heard about the Mass. Memories Road Show? The “Mass.” is for Massachusetts, and this is a road show of photos that might otherwise be lost. The UMass program provides a free scan of up to three photographs special to you, a picture that might not be preserved. The event has been held in several different towns over the past several years. This year the focus is on you, on Martha’s Vineyard, and will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17.
You will hear more about this in the months to come. Start thinking now. What special photo do you want to preserve, online, forever? Or maybe you want to help with the program. Our own library director, Amy Ryan, is the person in charge. If you want to help, email her at amyryan@clamsnet.org. You can go online to openarchives.umb.edu for more.
Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out to Garry Metters, who parties on Friday. Wish the best next Wednesday to Amy Levine.
Happy Mother’s Day. My mother had eyes in the back of her head. How else did she know what I did behind her back? She made it very clear when I was in trouble. She used my full name, including my middle name. That was really scary. No one else ever did that. But she could heal an ache or pain with a cuddle and few words, and made everything all better. I miss my mother.
Heard on Main Street: Remember your mother, or somebody’s mother, this Sunday.
