On monday morning, Tisbury Police helped guide motorists unaware of the changes in Union Street traffic flow.

On Monday morning, drivers went up Union Street but they could not go down it. For the most part, the change in traffic flow appeared to be working smoothly.

Tisbury police officers were on hand to keep drivers from turning right off Main Street and traveling down to the Steamship Authority terminal. Tisbury highway workers were busy adding signage on Main Street to alert drivers who intended to travel down Union Street that Norton Ave. was the last opportunity to turn right.

Tisbury town officials are conducting a one-month experiment as part of a traffic trial. The redirection is designed to improve traffic flow in the downtown area and relieve congestion at the Five Corners intersection. If successful, it may lead to a permanent change, pending a hearing.
