State Police reported that a 17-year-old Edgartown girl driving a 2006 Honda Civic outbound from Oak Bluffs struck the seawall opposite Farm Pond where the road slightly bends, about 8:15 pm Monday night.

Oak Bluffs Police Officer Damien Harris was on a regular patrol when he happened upon the scene of the accident, and was able to render aid and contact fire and EMS personnel.

State Police Trooper Dave Parent said the regional high school student, whom he declined to identify because the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, was wearing a seatbelt. He said speed appeared to be a factor.

With MedFlight grounded because of poor weather conditions, at the request of Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, early Tuesday morning a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced the girl, who was suffering from a head injury, to Tufts Medical Center. There was no information immediately available on her medical condition.
