Lambert’s Cove Road reopened to through traffic about 8 pm Monday night, following an accident that left a utility pole sheared in two, a truck driver uninjured, and as far as we know, a rabbit safe.

West Tisbury police reported that Fabio Motta, 52, was driving a 2003 Isuzu truck when, he said, he swerved to avoid a rabbit and sideswiped a utility pole on Lambert’s Cove Road between Seth’s Pond and Cottle’s lumberyard just before 2 pm Monday. Mr. Motta was not injured. Police cited him for a marked lane violation.

Police shut down the road between Pepperbush Way and Cottle’s for about six hours to allow utility crews and emergency service personnel to attend to the accident scene. Utility crews were called in to repair the pole.
