Volunteers sought to plant beach grass

The storms this past winter eroded dunes and destroyed much of the sand fencing and beach grass on State Beach, across from Sengekontacket Pond. This Saturday, April 7, the Friends of Sengekontacket is sponsoring a volunteer effort to help replant beach grass in about 4,000 square feet of dune area that was damaged by this winter’s storms. The primary areas are at Pathway 40, near Little Bridge.

Planting will start at 10 am at Pathway 40, on Beach Road near Little Bridge.
Reshments will be provided for volunteers.  To check for weather cancellation, call Michael Krause at 978-375-2234.

The Friends of Sengekontacket is a volunteer group that has been in existence for over 25 years. It works with Dukes County to help restore the dunes on Sylvia State Beach, which are needed to protect State Road and the pond.
