Don’t blink or you’ll miss it. Summer solstice happened last week, meaning, somehow, already?! The days are getting shorter, and I’m truly sorry to be the bearer of bad news in the first three seconds of this column. The loss of daylight is almost imperceptible at first (losing just a few seconds a day), but gradually accelerates through the summer and fall. But don’t despair, this is to be taken more so as a reminder to make sure your summer days are filled to the brim (or not) with whatever you’re hoping to accomplish this summer. Whether it’s having your business be really profitable this season so you can take the winter off to travel, or maybe tackling your kid’s summer bucket list, which probably includes ice cream on a daily basis — that’s it, that’s what our lives are made up of. Here’s what’s happening this week that you can add to your calendar:

Last week I attended one of these “Music in the Square” events, where Eisenhauer Gallery, Vineyard Square Hotel, and Chesca’s Restaurant come together to present live, local music in the Vineyard Square every Thursday all summer long. This week they are welcoming back Mike Benjamin and the Keepers! It’s a fun community night that starts at 6 pm, and is completely free!

Saturdays are back with Vinyasa Power Yoga classes from 9 to 10 am at the Edgartown library. This type of yoga is therapeutic, creative, and powerful. Vinyasa incorporates elements of strength-building, making it a dynamic experience. That same day, June 27, a sound bath with Trish Ginter takes place at 11:30 am. Two great ways to start your weekend. Both these programs have been generously funded by the Friends of the Edgartown Free Public Library, and I like to make sure to mention that — the work the Friends do is admirable, and if you’re looking to volunteer, connect, or donate your time (and/or money), they would love to have you! On June 26, Morning Glory Farm is hosting a Livestock Tour (2:30 pm) and a Vegetable Tour (4 pm). You’ll get to meet the Morning Glory cattle and pigs at their homes at Katama Farm, and learn more about how they use animals to feed our community and improve the land over time, as well as get a behind-the-scenes tour of the vegetable fields at Morning Glory Farm and learn how they grow produce! You do have to register for both of these online at bit.ly/MVAS_MorningGloryTours.

On June 29 at 7 pm, bestselling author Emma Brodie will talk about her new novel, “Into the Blue,” an instant N.Y. Times bestseller, with “Today” co-host Jenna Bush Hager at the Old Whaling Church. Tickets are on sale and can be found at bit.ly/BrodieHagerBookTalk.

Last but not least, I met the team doing the Swim Across America – Martha’s Vineyard Open Water Swim recently, and their work is incredible and worthy of support. The charity swim will be held at Menemsha Beach on Saturday, July 18. They welcome swimmers of all ages and skill levels, and volunteers, to help fight cancer with Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital!
