Island Summer
By Cecily Bryant
We were children once running
through wide meadows and twisted trees
Our sun browned faces perpetually excited
by new days and our solemn pledges of loyalty
We sought mystery in ancient rituals
and found truths in simple signs
Some days I still feel those childhood days
Though there have been times of
setbacks and vanquished dreams
I still believe in them it seems
