Thank you, Alex Karalekas, and everyone else who produce the beloved off-season highlight of the wintertime in the Chilmark Community Center; community, food, and music, the Potluck Jam for giving us one last night. There is no place like home. Thank you to everyone who set up the tables set with cloths and flowers and comfy chairs. Our town knows good food and how to cook. And there were oysters on the half shell. But best of all was the music. We didn’t catch everyone’s name, and wanted to call out the person who was in charge of the sound (following Steve Mack’s years; hope he was in the audience) and performers Lydia Fisher, Alex Karalekas, Mark Lovewell and Molly Conole, Ben Taylor, Isaac Taylor, Sarah Shaw Dawson, Ryan Montbleau and Phil daRosa, and a late and wonderful surprise visitor from San Francisco, Martin Luther McCoy. We wanted more from those who closed it out, even though some like us had to be up and out by 6 am. Thanks to all who stayed and pitched in to help with cleanup, including Michelle O’Connor and Katie Carroll.
The Chilmark Community Church continues its Lobster Roll sales, Tuesdays 4:30 to 6:30 pm (or until they sell out). And the Chilmark Flea Market is on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9 am to 2 pm. On Wednesdays you can visit the church’s traditional secondhand treasures table.
The wonderful folks at North Tabor Farm are looking for a part-time kitchen assistant (northtaborfarm.com).
Check out Ronni Simon’s art at the Chilmark Library through August 2. The next exhibit features art of many ages and styles curated by Chilmark artist Virginia Stone. That opening is Saturday, August 8, at 2 pm.
Sig Van Raan reports, “Another beautiful Sunday morning, and a full complement of the regulars. The game was held up for a while as we attended to an injured player who pulled a hamstring; it made us realize that yes, it’s a fun game, and played with an exuberance and
occasional laughs at the gaffes, but it does have its risky side — errant throws, line drives,
fluke plays that can cause injuries — even simply running to first base.
“So the game did pick up again, and was a well-played and usual game of mighty drives and brilliant fielding.
“This week’s game was a low-scoring affair — final score something like 4-3.”
