There is a search underway, as of early Saturday morning, 13 miles south of Nantucket for a plane, according to reporting by the Nantucket Current.

The plane, a Gulfstream G100 air ambulance, was traveling from Bermuda to Boston carrying six people, and the Current reported that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lost contact with the aircraft Saturday morning, according to the Coast Guard. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search and rescue alert notice around 1:20 am Saturday morning.

A press release from Preston Harimon, airport manager of Nantucket Memorial Airport, said that search and rescue efforts are being led by the Coast Guard. Harimon said that the “aircraft reportedly declared an emergency prior to the loss of contact.”

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search and rescue alert notice around 1:20 am Saturday morning, according to the Current, and Nantucket Police and Nantucket Harbormaster personnel are searching along the South Shore as the Coast Guard searches the waters.
