Westerly winds of 30 miles per hour, with higher gusts, caused cancellation of several Steamship Authority trips Friday, including six scheduled for the Island Home.
Saturday morning, weather improving, the boatline reported that standby lines in Woods Hole and Vineyard Haven were modest, that backlogs from the canceled trips of the day before cleared away, and the ferries were on schedule, with no cancellations.
The weather dependent scheduling Friday complicated life for Islanders leaving the Vineyard for vacation destinations. Next week is a holiday for Island schools.
