Oak Bluffs

Our thoughts and prayers this week are with Lisa BenDavid Scannell and her extended family. Lisa was seriously injured last week when her horse fell on her. She is now in Mass. General Hospital and is recovering from orthopedic surgery after suffering hip and pelvic fractures. She is out of ICU and faces over two months of rehab. Lisa and her family are so very grateful to the responding EMTs, who were praised by the Boston surgeons for their excellent and appropriate emergency response and care and to all their friends and family members who have been inquiring about her progress.

Veteran Hollywood comedy writer Marty Nadler will perform his one-man show, Very Vineyard 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven on Saturday, July 9, at 7 pm — a benefit for the M.V. Center for Living. Marty’s writing/producing and performing career spans more than three decades. Enjoy an evening of wine ‘n cheese and comedy with the Vineyard’s beloved raconteur. It will be his only appearance during July. For reservations, call Leslie at 508-939-9440. The Center for Living sponsors the supportive day program, medical taxi, emergency food cupboards, culinary arts luncheon, FEMA discretionary funds for fuel, and other assistance, and a network of providers’ web site.

Oak Bluffs lost two lifelong Islanders this week. Genevieve Rogers and Bobby Ann Gibson both died on Tuesday. On Sunday, David Cunniffe, 71, of East Chop, a kind and gentle man, died. They leave many very sad family members and friends. Our sympathies are extended to you all at this time.
