Edgartown Police arrested a California man on charges of rape.

A single car accident early Tuesday left a Vineyard Haven woman injured and knocked out power for nearly three hours.

Shortly before 1 am, April 17, Edgartown police, fire, and ambulance personnel responded to Upper Main Street, where they found a car on its roof. Jessica Elsasser, 27, was standing outside her vehicle, according to a police press release.

Emergency medical personnel treated her at the scene, then took her by ambulance to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

The vehicle struck a telephone pole, causing the power outage. Power was restored about 3:40 am.

Police said they will seek charges against the driver in Edgartown District Court for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violations and speed greater than reasonable.
