For those of you who use email to give me news, note that I have a new email address. We had a problem with our old email.

Congratulations to the Midge and Knip Knipmeyers who are celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss today.

The MV Sharks are our own collegiate baseball team. Tad Gold is the only Islander on the team. He lives in our town. You can see his picture as well as that of his grandmother, Cynthia Schilling, in a nice piece by Jim Kaplan in Martha’s Vineyard Magazine. Maggie Riseborough is also pictured, opening a game with the national anthem. Now you don’t have to go to Boston for your baseball fix. Schedules are available in most shops for the asking.

Tomorrow’s open house at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum announces the beginning of summer, with new exhibits, a new children’s interactive program, and the results of the Island Faces Portrait competition. The 18th-century Cooke House will open for the season. The gates open to members and guests at 5:30 pm. You can also buy your tickets for the Vineyard Haven House Tour a week from Saturday.

The Vineyard Haven House Tour is in the William Street area and can include a lecture and brunch if you choose. Five homes will be open from 12:30 to 3:30 pm on Saturday the 23rd. Call 508-627-4441 for tickets.

Saturday at 1 pm is the Mini Book Sale at the Vineyard Haven Library. Buy your beach reading and benefit the children’s programs. Saturday mornings in June you can drop in for help with Ebooks and downloadable books between 10 and noon.

Louisa Gould invites you to an opening reception on Saturday at 5 for a new exhibit called Summer Splash. The Long Point 5 will provide live music. See works by Carol Gove, Ethel Grodsky, Suzanne Hill, Genevieve Jacobs, Margo Ouellette, Rachel Paxon, and Vaclav Vytlacil, now through June 27.

Richard Paradise says the MV Film Society is putting up walls (and that’s a good thing when you’re building a theater). The framing and the roof should be completed in the next few weeks, so take a look when you’re at the Tisbury Marketplace. By the end of July they will roll in the equipment so they can roll out the red carpet in time for the International Film Festival in September.

Support the West Tisbury Library and meet Richard North Patterson at 5:30 pm on Wednesday at the State Road Restaurant. For more, call 508-693-3489.

In honor of the 68th anniversary of D-Day, Bruce Doten will give a free travelogue of France a week from tomorrow at 7 pm at the Federated Church in Edgartown. His talk covers Normandy, Brittany, and Paris.

Here is a tasty treat for your calendar: the annual Strawberry Festival at the West Tisbury Church is June 23rd from noon to 4 pm. For more, call 508-693-2842.

Today is Flag Day. Did you fly your flag today? This originally celebrated the ‘birthday’ of our flag, but it also became the day when public buildings and officials were especially encouraged to display our flag.

Happy anniversary to Doug and Barbara Peckham on Saturday.

Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out today to artist Madeline Fisher. Tomorrow wish the best to Fredrick Nash. Helen Alwardt will celebrate on Monday. Wednesday belongs to Laura Kimball.

Heard on Main Street: If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
