What a week. We had our first houseguests of the season this past weekend as we were visited by Joe and Krista Grotto of Somerville and Laura Chavanne of Cambridge, and after three days of beach, fried clams, oysters, s’mores, Jeep rides, grilling, sunsets, and endless laughter, I am beat. So beat that I almost forgot to write about it!

Barbara Phillips played host to granddaughters Madeline and Mallory D’Amato, who enjoyed time on the beach as well as cruising around the driveway of their “Bebe” on pink and purple trikes. It was a sad farewell when the two met their mommy, Leah, in Woods Hole when the fun was over, and Leah reports that they asked for Bebe the whole way home. Fortunately, all will meet again in a couple of weeks.

Happy anniversary to Morgan and Bobby Lucero, who celebrated July 12, a particularly auspicious date, as it also happens to be the anniversary of Morgan’s parents. Here’s to many more years of happiness.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum is thrilled to welcome former State Senior Marine Biologist and Vineyard native Arnie Carr to the Museum as part of the summer Shipwrecks Lecture Series. Mr. Carr will speak in the Museum Library on Thursday, July 19, beginning at 5:30 pm about his knowledge of ship disasters that have occurred off the coast of the Island — all in conjunction with the Museum’s current exhibit “Out of the Depths: Martha’s Vineyard Shipwrecks.” Visit mvmuseum.org for further info.

The theme of this week’s event mentions is family fun. I have culled my inbox for some excellent options for all you little ones to take Mom and Dad out on the town, so here goes….

Did you know the library hosts free outdoor concerts on their lawn every Tuesday evening? Yup, it’s true. It is all part of their “Sounds Like Summer” music program, for the whole family. On tap for next Tuesday, July 24, listen to the Cattle Drivers band, led by Kevin Keady. Past and future acts include Michael Benjamin, the Flying Elbows, and the Grateful Dread. Bring a lawn chair, if you like, and enjoy! Visit edgartownlibrary.org for a calendar of upcoming events.

If you’re still looking for fun family time on Wednesday, check out Flatbread Pizza’s Family Dance-O-Rama from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, next to the MV Airport. DJ Shizz will be spinning all your favorite dance tunes from Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga, complete with disco lighting effects and bubbles. Call 508-693-1137 for more info.

Thursday nights, there is more live music to enjoy from 6 to 8 pm in the courtyard in front of the Eisenhauer Gallery. Past and upcoming performers include Jon Zeeman, Michael Benjamin, and Ballyhoo.
