The driver of a 2006 X5 all-wheel drive BMW drove up the stairs and into the front door of the Jane Brown Associates real estate office at the Triangle in Edgartown, at about 5:30 pm, Monday. Edgartown police said there were no injuries.

The driver, Mary Dennis, 69, of Edgartown and Quincy, told police her floormat slipped forward and depressed the accelerator pedal. Despite her efforts to stop, the car moved forward, she said.

Sergeant Jonathan Searle said the BMW gas pedal is hinged on the bottom and that allowed the mat to slip up. Police issued no citations.
