We were happy that Dan got home just in time to remind us to watch the race at Belmont Park. He even picked the runner-up. So we did get to see the first winner of the Triple Crown in over 30 years.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum invites you to the Summer Opening Party tomorrow evening from 5 to 7 in Edgartown. This is your first chance to see the Museum’s new book, Island Stories: Highlights from the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.

The Windemere Benefit Auction is tomorrow from 6 to 8 pm in the Grange Hall. Enjoy a live and silent auction, light fare, wine, and sweets. The funds cover musicians, exercise and yoga teachers, and help residents attend special events on our Island. Admission is free.

Look for the strawberry banner and bright balloons on the West Tisbury Church fence a week from Saturday, June 20. Enjoy a variety of strawberry treats at tables and chairs on the front lawn, from shortcakes to smoothies, even berries to go and fresh jam. All proceeds of this fundraiser help support this historic church. The event will be indoors if it rains.

Join in the celebration on July 25 at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury to thank Dr. Jim Weiss, superintendent of schools, for his 10 years of service here on the Island. Tickets are available in any school office or the superintendent’s office. Tickets will only be on sale until June 23.

The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society opens the 2015 Summer Concert Festival next month on Monday, July 13, at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The original wall decorations have been fully restored by Margot Datz, complementing her stunning trompe l’oeil; that alone is worth a look.

The Harlem Quartet performs at 8 pm that Monday in the Old Whaling Church, and again on Tuesday at the Chilmark Community Center. July and August concerts are the second, third, and fourth Monday, and the following Tuesday at Chilmark.
