Get your daffodils tomorrow, March 17, at Cronig’s. These help the battle against cancer, and they will soon bloom into that glorious color of spring. Years ago my husband had an elderly aunt here whose memory had gone. But she always remembered enough to ask us to take her around the Island to see “the yellow” in March. We always enjoyed that Island tour, while we happily admired the promise of spring and the vivid sunshine of forsythia and daffodils.
If you were in the Tisbury class of 1967, this is especially for you. In January 1967, students in the Tisbury School sixth grade class taught by Dorothy R. Howell placed a time capsule in the wall of the Vineyard Haven Public Library, with the intention of opening it 50 years later, in 2017. The library is currently planning for an opening ceremony of the Tisbury time capsule, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 29. Students from that class who are interested in participating are encouraged to contact the library director, Amy Ryan, for more details at 508-696-4210, ext. 111. Just imagine what you might have wanted to include if you were in sixth grade creating a Tisbury time capsule.
Did you check out the “Protest” exhibit at Featherstone? These exhibits are a good way to learn what many of our neighbors think. I was fascinated with some of the ideas that I had never known or thought about.
I was given a lovely pink pussy hat that has been more a matter of a wonderfully warm hat, much needed these past few weeks. This spring bonnet often brings comments and a smile. I almost always have a smile on my face because it so lovely and warm. I hope it also makes people remember what inspired those women who marched in Washington and Boston and even at our own Five Corners several weeks ago.
